Favarh, The Arc of Farmington Valley, Inc.
The Arc of the Farmington Valley, Inc., more commonly known as Favarh, was founded in 1958 by eight local families who all wanted a better life for their children with intellectual disabilities.
Today, Favarh (pronounced “FAY-var”) supports more than 350 youths, adults, seniors, and families from 35 Connecticut towns in and around the Greater Farmington Valley area. We employ more than 330 people and 100 active volunteers working in the Favarh Thrift Shop. Our mission is To Help Each Person Achieve Their Personal Best as we encourage and support a greater level of independence and personal satisfaction for each person in our care.
Favarh provides the following services:
- Day Programs keeping adults active in their community
- Employment Programs putting individuals to work
- Residential Programs providing adults with independence from their families
- Recreational and Fitness Programs to help maintain healthy lifestyles
- Transportation Programs allowing adults the freedom to live, work, play and participate in their community
Recent Accomplishments:
Favarh is known for its innovative programs, having introduced to the state of Connecticut such cuttingedge services for people with intellectual disabilities as
- Project SEARCH, an internship transitioning students from school to employment with a 98% placement rate.
- Multiple integrated Supportive Housing developments for adults with and without disabilities in Canton, Simsbury, Bloomfield, and Farmington.
- Healthy Meals Program promoting healthy eating habits for new apartment dwellers.
- Favarh Players, an integrated theater program for youths and adults with and without intellectual disabilities, now in its 10th season.
TANGO’s Impact:
TANGO provides support to Favarh and the individuals we serve in many ways, including through its informative seminars, training opportunities, conferences, and Rising Star Scholarship. Between the scholarships and the ongoing educational opportunities, Favarh has been able to grow and learn how to better support our staff, the people we care for, and the community we serve. We’re proud to be a member of TANGO’s nonprofit community.
